Sustainable motorboat boats, live aboard cruisers, chart plotter tutorials and astronavigation in the savvy news

Hey savvy friends,

I have a question - have you ever considered letting your boat sail itself across the Atlantic, without you? I hear you - no! But that’s exactly what the Mayflower did…

Yes, you read that right. The Mayflower Autonomous Ship (MAS400) successfully completed a voyage from England across the Atlantic to Plymouth Rock, Massachusetts!

The 15-metre trimaran was retracing the 3,500-mile journey from England to the US undertaken by pilgrims aboard the Mayflower in 1620. The vessel navigated using Artificial Intelligence (AI) and was powered using solar energy. Cool huh?

Could this be the future of expedition tech?

Many weather apps provide users with a raft of different weather forecasting models, allowing them to flick through a variety of forecasts. At savvy navvy, we think this approach is like saying “this is too hard - here are all the models; you figure it out”.

We don’t expect you to be a metrologist to get the most out of your weather data. That’s because everything we build is based on the concept of providing you with a smarter savvy solution. This is why we’ve teamed up with Meteomatics - the global leader in weather intelligence.

The Meteomatics Mix combines different sources into an intelligent blend, such that the best data source is chosen for each time and location.

In short it:

  • Combines ECMWF with more than 25 other weather models
  • Mixes weather and terrain models, land use data and astronomical data
  • Provides spatial resolution ranging from 0.08° to 0.011°  (~6km to ~0.8km)
